Every senior season, my camera roll ends up filled with screenshots of outfit options from my seniors, and honestly, I love it!

One of my favorite parts of preparing for a senior session is helping my seniors choose outfits they’ll feel confident in. If you’ve ever worried about what to wear for your photos, you’re definitely not alone. In fact, it’s probably the number one question I get leading up to a session!

First of all, don’t stress! I know choosing outfits can feel overwhelming, but it can also be one of the most fun parts. My biggest piece of advice is to choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good, it shows in your photos!

Here are a few of my favorite tips to help you prepare for your senior session:

Wear Something That Feels Like You

Your senior photos should tell the story of who you are during this season of life. If you live in jeans and cute tops, wear that! If you love dressing up, bring a dress. If you’re a sports girl, bring your jersey. If you’re into music, art, or another hobby, let’s incorporate that too!

The best photos happen when you’re comfortable being yourself.

Bring a Variety of Outfits

I always recommend bringing a few different looks to your session. A good mix might include:

  • A “casual” outfit like jeans and a top
  • A “dressier” outfit like a maxi dress
  • Something that reflects your personality or interests like denim and cowgirl boots!

Having a variety gives your gallery more personality and makes it feel more like you.

Think Timeless

Trends are fun, but remember that you’ll hopefully be looking back at these photos years from now. I always encourage seniors to choose outfits that feel classic and timeless alongside any trendy pieces they love.

That being said, don’t be afraid to embrace a trend if it feels like you! Last year I absolutely loved the yellow dress trend. It photographed beautifully and looked amazing in summer fields and golden hour light. The key is finding a balance between timeless pieces and a few fun touches that reflect your style right now.

Soft colors, earth tones, neutrals, and simple patterns tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus where it belongs, on you!

Don’t Forget the Details

A few little things can make a big difference:

  • Clean your shoes
  • Steam or iron your outfits beforehand
  • Remove hair ties from your wrist
  • Bring any accessories you love
  • Pack a brush, lip gloss, or touch-up items

A Fun Tip: Try Nuuly!

Want a few fun outfit options without buying a whole new wardrobe? I’ve had seniors use Nuuly for their session outfits, and it’s such a fun option! I have used it for a few months now and it’s seriously si fun!

You can rent several pieces for a month, wear them for your photos, and then send them back when you’re done. It’s a great way to try a fun dress, trendy outfit, or statement piece that you might not normally purchase.

Of course, you don’t need brand new clothes for great senior photos, but if you’re looking to add a little variety to your outfits, Nuuly can be a great option!

Still Not Sure What to Wear?

Send me pictures!

Seriously, I love helping my seniors put outfits together. If you’re deciding between a few options, send me photos and I’ll happily help you choose what will photograph best.

Senior year is such a special season, and your photos should reflect who you are right now. I can’t wait to celebrate this exciting chapter with you and create images you’ll love for years to come!
